Let’s Dive In! FAQs
Answers to your questions
If you are struggling to find answers to questions you have, please first consult these FAQs or otherwise we’re here and happy to help
How much do lessons cost?
30-minute group classes are £14 per session payable termly plus a £5 one off joining fee if you have not swum with us before.
A 1:1 session costs £26 per session (30-minute session) payable termly or half termly on agreement and also incurs a £5 one off joining fee.
Family sessions (minimum of 2 participants at the same ability) are £16 per child (30-minute session) also payable termly or half termly on agreement and also incur a £5 one off joining fee.
What are the term dates?
We run three 10 – 12-week terms (Spring, Summer & Autumn) in line with the school terms and we break for school holidays.
Who are the lessons for?
Our lessons are for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
Do you run sessions for adults?
We offer adult beginner & improver classes, and our teachers are able to help with improving confidence and technique, whatever your ability. Our teachers are also trained in Aquaphobia so can help you master your fears or overcome previous negative experiences in the water.
How many are there in a class?
We have a maximum of 6 swimmers in our group classes – we keep our numbers low to allow for the most worthwhile lessons. Swim squads may have up to 8 in class.
Beginner sessions will have a smaller ratio of 1:4 with the teacher in the water to support them.
Do you have a teacher in the water?
We have a swimming teacher in the water for our swim fin and foundation and stage 1 advance classes.
Do you offer taster lessons?
Before committing to a term of lessons you can come along for a taster session. This is £14 payable at the pool.
Can I watch the lessons before choosing to book?
We can’t offer this as some pools only allow swimmers on poolside, and our instructors need to concentrate on the swimmers, but you can come for a taster session before committing to a term of lessons.
Information on how we operate at each pool is available prior to signing up.
Where are your pools located?
Please see details of all current venues in and around Maidenhead
What days/times do you offer lessons?
Lessons take place seven days a week and times vary by day and venue
How long are the swimming lessons?
Lessons are generally 30 minutes long.
Swim squad and synchro sessions can be 40-60 minutes.
Do parents need to get in the water?
Parents do not accompany their children in the water – where necessary we have a swimming assistant in the water for some of our classes. We do offer Parent and Child lessons (otherwise known as Happy Hippos) where a parent is required in the water; this is for babies and preschoolers.
What are your class levels?
Let’s Dive in Swim School is an affiliated Swim England swim school delivering fun, safe and inspiring swimming lessons following the National Plan for Teaching Swimming.
See here for more details
What’s my child’s level within your programme?
When you first sign up with us, we will gauge your child’s stage by asking questions about their ability and previous swimming awards. We can also assess their ability with a session in the water before placing them in the class best for them.
Are the pools indoor and warm?
All of our pools are in warm, indoor environments, with temperatures ideal for active swimming lessons.
Can I spectate at my child’s swimming lesson?
At most of our venues you can watch your child’s lessons on poolside otherwise there is the option to watch through the window. Please note this does vary by venue in terms of the viewing location.
How do I book and pay?
On booking or renewal you will receive an invoice for the term. This can be paid by direct debit, BACS or Stripe.
How do I cancel my lessons
Lessons are payable termly, and you will be offered a renewal for the following term. If for some reason you need to cancel lessons please get in touch. We can suggest alternative sessions where needed.
Can I change my class day or time?
Please get in touch should you wish to change your class for the remainder of term. We do not offer different sessions if you chose not to attend your class. Session dates are known in advance prior to booking so if you feel you cannot attend enough of the course to sign up then please let us know.
What if we miss a class?
If you know in advance that you are going to miss a class, please let us know as soon as possible and if we have any availability we will try to accommodate you. We cannot offer credit or carry-over classes for absences and illness.
Do I need to bring any equipment or swimming aids?
People with long hair must wear swimming caps and we encourage the use of goggles when people are water confident. LDI offer swim hats and discounted goggles to purchase. Please contact us for options and we can get these to your lesson.
Do you teach water safety?
Water safety is taught at all stages as part of the Swim England Learn to Swim programme. Our babies in our Happy Hippos classes are also given the foundations of keeping safe in the water. We also support RLSS annual drowning prevention week in June. We offer RLSS Rookie Lifeguard sessions in the school holidays for older swimmers.
Can children of different abilities swim at the same time?
We teach in small groups of similar age and ability. Where possible, we can accommodate siblings of different abilities to swim in separate lessons at the same time.
How do you recruit, check and train teachers?
All our team members are recruited based on qualifications, references, DBS check and team fit to be able to deliver safe-fun-inspiring sessions.
How will you keep me informed about my child’s development?
We deliver the Swim England National Plan for teaching swimming and will advise you if we need to change your class to ensure they keep learning at their pace in a positive environment.
Can I leave my child while they are having a lesson?
Yes, if your child is comfortable with you doing so, but we ask that all parents and guardians are available on their phone in case they are needed. Swimmers who need help going to the toilet, must have a responsible adult on poolside to take them when needed.
Do you have an awards scheme?
Each swimmer is constantly assessed. Where appropriate each term they will receive a badge and certificate at the end of term dependent on their achievements. We offer Swim England awards which you will receive a notification when they have achieved this to purchase directly from Swim England. We also offer STA, RLSS and our own LDI awards as they progress through their swim journey with us.
Can children wear goggles?
Children can wear goggles in the water as soon as they are comfortable and fit correctly. The safest goggles are the ones without a nose covering.
Can children wear jewellery?
For safety reasons, loose and dangling jewellery should not been worn in the pool. Stud earrings are acceptable.
How do you teach babies to swim?
Our Happy Hippos programme gently helps babies develop their confidence and love of water in partnership with their parents and guardians, through games, songs and fun activities.
Will I put my baby under water?
Babies will only go underwater when they are ready and can show signs that they are happy to do so. This goes for all of our swimmers, whatever the age!
What are safe behaviour routines?
We teach all of our swimmers to behave safely in and around the pool – this includes safely climbing in and out, walking when on poolside and being respectful of other swimmers when in the water.
